In this session, Cary Tyson—executive director of Portland Downtown and member of the Parking Reform Network—shares how a single parking space can become a powerful tool for change. Drawing on years of experience leading PARK(ing) Day installations, Cary will show how creative, people-centered reimaginings of public space can open vital conversations about parking reform and community priorities.

Attendees will learn how to use this national day of action to galvanize local engagement, build broad coalitions, and advance efforts to eliminate costly and outdated parking minimums.

This session is a chance to plug into a key Strong Towns campaign to end parking minimums—one that we are seeing progress on all across the country. In particular, you’ll hear about how Strong Towns Local Conversation groups are taking action on this issue nationwide. Whether you're a concerned resident or a local leader, you’ll leave inspired with practical ideas to reclaim space and spark lasting, incremental change in your city—one spot at a time.

This workshop is worth 1 AICP continuing education credit.
